The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) is the regulator for the nursing and midwifery professions in the UK. The NMC maintains a register of all nurses, midwives and specialist community public-health nurses eligible to practise within the UK. It sets and reviews standards for their education, training, conduct and performance. The NMC also investigates allegations of impaired fitness to practise.

The NMC customer service phone number is 020 7637 7181. If you want information about registration, dial 020 7333 9333. For international enquiries, ring 020 7333 6600. These lines are open from 8am to 5.45pm on weekdays (excluding bank holidays) The NMC recommends that you avoid the busiest times: all day Monday and daily between 10am and 12 noon. The NMC policy is to respond to queries within ten working days.
020 numbers are geographically specific to London. 020 numbers are normal landline numbers, charged at standard rates. If your tariff does not offer inclusive calls to landlines, or you are calling at a time of day when charges apply, typical rates for landline calls are between 6p and 12p per minute (depending on your phone company) plus between 16p and 19p per call. If you are calling from a mobile, the cost will be between 20p and 55p per minute (depending on your phone company).

Social Media is not a good way to contact the Council. The NMC’s Facebook page is followed and/or has been liked by some 70,000 people. However, the FB page (@nmcuk) does not seem to be monitored for incoming messages. Over 57,000 people follow the NMC Twitter feed (@nmcnews), though this does not seem to be monitored for incoming messages, either. The Nursing & Midwifery Council has 12,000 followers on LinkedIn. The NMC YouTube channel has 900 subscribers. The NMC has no content on Instagram or Pinterest. NMCvideos has three followers on Google+.
