Housing Benefit Telephone Number 44 800 055 66 88

Housing Benefit is a social security scheme in the UK that helps individuals meet the rent requirements of their letted accommodation. Tenants, eligible for housing benefits, receive this financial aid as a rebate, reducing the amount of rent payable that they have to pay to landlords and owners of the properties in which they live. The housing benefit scheme changed in 1982 as it was transferred from the Department of Social Security to local authorities. The decision for this transfer was due to the fact that it was believed that local authorities would have a better understanding of the local rental market conditions than the DSS.
