There are over 400,000 direct sellers in the UK alone (with over 91.5 million direct sellers worldwide) and every day, more and more consumers choose this type of service which consists of selling goods and services directly to them, in their homes or in any other location which is not a shop, be it person-to-person or party plan mode. It is very easy to get started: on average £100 for a business kit and sample products and with the advent of new technologies it is becoming increasingly easier to be successful as a direct seller, regardless of age, gender or education, and ultimately to be one’s own boss. Direct Sales is a good way to supplement ones income as a part time job or one can choose it as a lifelong carreer, but always with a flexible schedule which adapts to one’s needs. It comes as no surpise that annual direct sales amount to 154 billion USD worldwide and they keep growing.
The UK DSA has been responsible for the Direct Sellers Assosiation governance and business matters since 1965 and it is directed and controlled by its members and currently its member companies account for 51% of total direct sales in the UK. Aspects of our duties include among others: lobbying stakeholders, maintaining dialogue with key policy makers and media, making our members aware of issues that affect them directly, etc. We also provide free basic advice to those who have just started in this sector, organise events and we constanly inform about any new develoments regarding regulations or other requirements that directly affect the sector. Finally, we make sure that our member companies comply not only with the UK law but also with The Consumer Code of Practice and The Code of Business Conduct. All of those interested in becoming a member of this continuously expanding sector or those who have inquiries about our member companies and would like to get in touch with any of them and even if you might have a complaint about any of them, some useful piece of contact information is provided next.
