Disability Living Allowance (DLA) is a social-security benefit paid to eligible claimants who have personal care and/or mobility needs as a result of a mental or physical disability. It is tax-free, non-means-tested and non-contributory. DLA can be claimed by children under 16 and can still be received by existing claimants who were aged 65 or over on 8th April 2013.

Contacting DLA by Phone
If you were born before or on 8th April 1948, dial 0345 605 6055 for the Disability Service Centre’s customer service. If you prefer to use textphone, the number is 0345 604 5312. If you were born after 8th April 1948, ring 0345 712 3456. If you prefer to use textphone, the number is 0345 722 4433. All these lines are open from Monday to Friday between 8am and 6pm.
Numbers starting with 0345 are neither premium rate or freephone numbers. Calling an 0345 number costs exactly the same as calling a friend or neighbour on their home phone. While this means that they aren’t necessarily free to call, there are no premium rate charges involved and the number receiving the call doesn’t make a profit from any call charges you do pay. Phone tariffs that come with inclusive minutes or ‘free’ calls to landlines include calls to 0345 numbers in exactly the same way as for normal landline numbers starting 01 or 02. If you don’t have any “free minutes” with your landline package typically you will be charged up to 10p per minute. This can vary significantly depending on what day and time you are making the call on. If you call from a mobile and you don’t have any ‘free minutes’ left, typically the cost of calling a 0345 number will be between 10p and 40p per minute.
